Pet Portrait Image Guidelines

A great portrait starts with a great photo. Please read the guidelines below to ensure the image you choose to upload for your pet portrait will give you the best looking result.

Best Results

  • Use a late model smartphone or high quality camera.
  • Photos should be taken in natural daylight (preferably outdoors) for best results.
  • Make sure your pet is facing forward and looking at the camera at eye level. The “Sit” position is ideal.
  • Ensure your pet’s entire face and front are visible and not obscured by shadows or objects such as beds, blankets or hands.
  • Your pet’s colour, pose, and accessories (collars, tags, bows, outfits, etc.) will be illustrated exactly as shown in your photo, so please make sure your photo is 100% accurate of how you want your portrait to look.

Examples:

Bright, outdoor lighting

Avoid

  • We don’t recommend uploading a photo taken in poor lighting as most of your pet’s detail including colour will not be portrayed accurately in the final portrait.
  • Any ‘enhanced’ photos that detract from the colour and clarity of the pet are not recommended. This includes photos with filters, overlays, sharpening or portrait mode where the edges of the pet’s fur is blurred.
  • Avoid using photos where your pet is lying down. The entire face and neck should be visible.
  • Don’t use a photo where your any part of your pet’s face is cropped or cut off. We can’t illustrate what isn’t there!

Examples:

Poor lighting

Pet's front is not visible

Pet is not facing camera

Pet is lying down

Poor quality image

Photo not taken at eye level

Pet's face is cropped

Pet is obscured by blanket
